All teachers are now entitled to 10% of their timetabled teaching time for preparation, planning and assessment activities (PPA).

The first year of teaching is known as the Induction Year.
This involves:
  • a 10 per cent reduction in your teaching timetable to give you time to develop your teaching skills away from the classroom;
  • the support of an induction tutor;
  • regular reviews of your progress; and
  • formal discussions at the end of each term with your tutor and/or headteacher.
Satisfactory completion of the Induction Year leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
